FAQ
Online Alarm Clock — Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions people actually ask about setting and using an online alarm clock — including where it's genuinely limited, not just where it isn't. For the alarm clock itself, head back to thehomepage.
Frequently asked questions
How do I set an alarm online?
Open Real Online Alarm, press "+ Add alarm," choose an hour and minute, optionally pick repeat days and a sound, then press "Save alarm." No download, sign-up, or account is required.
How do I pay an alarm permit online?
This site is an online alarm clock — a browser-based wake-up and reminder tool — not a municipal alarm-permit or home-security registration service, so it can't process permit payments. If you're looking to register or pay for a burglar/security alarm permit, that's handled by your local city, county, or police department's own website, not here.
How do I set an alarm on my computer?
Open Real Online Alarm in any desktop browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari), add an alarm, and leave the tab open — or install the site as an app via your browser's "Install" / "Add to Home Screen" option, so it opens on its own instead of buried in a tab.
How do I set an online alarm clock?
Press "+ Add alarm" on the homepage, set a time, choose whether it repeats (once, weekdays, weekends, every day, or a custom combination), pick a sound, and save. The alarm appears in your list immediately with its own "next fire" countdown.
Can an online alarm clock wake me up if my laptop is closed?
No — closing a laptop's lid puts most computers to sleep, which suspends everything running, including any webpage. No browser-based alarm clock (this one included) can fire while the device itself is asleep. Keep the lid open, or change your OS power settings so closing the lid doesn't sleep the machine, and keep the screen on.
Will an online alarm work if I close the browser tab?
No. The tab needs to stay open — minimized or in the background is fine, but fully closing it (or force-closing the browser app on mobile) stops the alarm from checking the time or ringing. Keeping the tab open, and optionally installing the site as an app, is the most reliable setup.
Is there a free online alarm clock?
Yes — Real Online Alarm is completely free, with no sign-up, subscription, or paywall on any feature, including multiple alarms and real recurrence.
How loud is an online alarm clock?
As loud as your device allows. The in-app volume slider can amplify past a plain sound file's normal ceiling, and combined with your device's own media volume turned up, it can get genuinely loud rather than just "loud for a browser tab." See the loud alarm clock page for more.
Can I set multiple alarms on an online alarm clock?
Yes — add as many independent alarms as you want. Each has its own time, label, sound, snooze length, and repeat schedule, all managed from one list.
How do I set a recurring alarm online?
When adding or editing an alarm, tap the "Weekdays," "Weekends," or "Every day" shortcut, or select individual days yourself — the alarm keeps firing on those days automatically until you turn it off.
Can I use an online alarm clock without downloading an app?
Yes — that's the entire point. It runs in any modern browser with nothing to install. If you'd still like an app-like icon and window, your browser's "Add to Home Screen" / "Install" option can add one, but it's optional.
Does an online alarm clock work on mobile phones?
Yes — the layout is fully responsive and works in mobile browsers on Android and iOS. The same caveat as any browser tab applies: locking the phone is fine, but force-closing the browser app will stop the alarm, so leave it running in the background instead.
How do I change the alarm sound on an online alarm clock?
Pick a sound from the dropdown when adding or editing an alarm, and press "Test sound" to preview it before saving.
Can I set an online alarm for a specific date?
Not yet as a true calendar date — alarms are scheduled by time-of-day (optionally repeating on chosen weekdays), the same way a physical alarm clock works, rather than a fixed future date like "March 15." A one-time ("Once") alarm fires at the next occurrence of that time, so it's best suited to same-day or next-day reminders rather than a date weeks out.
How accurate is an online alarm clock?
Very — each alarm's next-fire time is recalculated from your device's real clock on every check, rather than counted down in memory, so backgrounding the tab, locking the screen briefly, or letting the device idle doesn't cause it to drift or fire late.
Will an online alarm clock work without internet after it loads?
Largely, yes. Once the page and its sound files have loaded, everything — checking the time, ringing, snoozing, stopping — runs from code and data already in your browser, with no network calls required. A service worker also caches the app shell so reloading works offline.
How do I set a silent or vibrate alarm online?
There's no dedicated silent/vibrate-only mode yet. The closest options today: mute the sound (the "Beep when it ends" toggle) and rely on the fullscreen visual ringing screen, or enable browser notifications, which some mobile devices vibrate for depending on your phone's own notification settings.
Can I use an online alarm clock as a timer too?
Yes — this site includes a dedicated online timer with one-click presets, quick-add, and fullscreen mode, using the same reliable, non-drifting engine as the alarm clock.
How do I stop an online alarm from going off?
Press "Stop" on the fullscreen ringing screen to dismiss it, or "Snooze" to push it back by that alarm's own configured length instead.
Does an online alarm clock use my computer's time zone automatically?
Yes — alarm times are read from your device's own clock and time zone automatically. There's no separate time zone setting to configure for the alarm clock itself.
Can I set an online alarm clock in a different time zone?
Not directly for the alarm itself — alarms fire based on your device's local time. If you need to know what time it currently is somewhere else first, use the world clock, then set the equivalent local time as your alarm.
How do I bookmark an online alarm clock for daily use?
Use your browser's bookmark shortcut (Ctrl/Cmd+D), or for something closer to a real alarm clock app, use "Add to Home Screen" / "Install" instead — it adds an icon that opens the site in its own window rather than a browser tab.
